Does anyone know how to use a metal brake?

Question:We have to wrap the outsides of windows and have never to use a metal brake. Anyone have any clue how to do this properly?

Answers:
It is a little confusing to use when you have never worked with one before. The best directions I can tell you is to not try and make the metal fit extremely tight to the wood. Add an 1/8" to your measurements. We do most our fabricating with a hydraulic brake in our fabrication shops, but all of my crews have a portable brake in site with them. Our portable brakes can't make a turn up less than 3/4 ". Another good pointer is to mark both ends of the metal and also the middle so you don't shove it in too far. Another thing you can do to keep from wasting a lot of metal is to make like a 3" sample piece so that you can test fit your pattern before braking it all.

It is simply a tool for bending metal to a desired shape. It would be difficult to tell you how to use one since they range from the very simple to the very complex.
Yeah, get someone to use it that knows what they are doing.
