Use a red brick. With knife in hand, place the side of the blade on the brick's surface and slide the blade across the brick as if you are trying to cut a very thin layer off, being sure to make contact with the entire edge of the knife from the bottom to the tip. Repeat this process about 12 times on each side, or until it become sharp enough for you.
Sorry, but a whetstone is the best way to sharpen a knife. Directions should come with the whetstone, or ask like a Home Depot associate.
Good luck.
You can do it with sand paper, I don't recommend the
meat knife sharpener it will take forever if your bland is just a tiny bit dull
you can use the back of a leather belt. it will take longer, but it will still work. i do it all the time!
? do you like own a Case pocket knife?
Use a womans emery board and a bit of water on your blade.
if you have a old ceramic coffee cup or something, it will work to sharpen your knife( it has to be a semi-rough finish though)
What you want is a ( whet stone) not a wet stone.and they are cheap and can be bought at about any hard ware store.I used to use a piece of sand stone that I would find lying on the ground, but a whet stone works better than anything else.Leather strops are for straight razor (to put a really keen edge on it ) but they are not much for a knife unless it is already sharp.
One of the best things I've found is the ceramic on the inside of those great big lights you see around stores and parking lots.
Hmmm...you can't afford three dollars for something to sharpen your jacknife? I'm thinking that maybe you should put the knife away until you can afford to maintain one.
A sheet of sand paper (not really sand) got to your local hardware store and get one sheet of 'wet and dry' paper cost pennies, get grade 800, fold it to a convenient size and keep it wet on a flat surface, and use your knife at about 45 degrees alternatively on each side of the blade and with a little practice you will get a very sharp blade. the edge lasts longer than a grindstone or a wet stone.
