How do I get rid of the sinky smell from my disposal?
Question:
Answers:
first use bleach and run the disposal. after you rinse it out, cut a lemon into quarters and place it in there for a lemon scent. make sure you throw it out every 1-2 days and replace.
I just pour some bleach or pine-sol (preferred) into it and leave it. This is great especially when you leave on vacation.
soak it in bleach
I have found that citrus peels and baking soda left in to stand for a few minutes and then run through disposal freshens it up.
I would check the trap below the sink it should unscrew pretty easily make sure there is nothing stuck there. I had one sink I removed the trap and there was a screw that fell down nd food was catching on it!
I would throw in a couple of lemons if you want to get rid of the smell once you are sure there are no food stuck in the disposal or trap!
Lemons.
Chop a lemon. Through it all in. Turn on disposal till it's all gone. If your disposal is old (and the blades are dull) this won't work as well, but if if it's fairly new, it'll work great.
Lemons are great as well as baking soda. Also throw some ice cubes down it regularly. This helps clear any debris away. Make sure you are running cold water down the disposal and let it run a little longer than you think it takes to totally grind the food. This helps wash away any remains.
First run the disposal to clear out any food, then pour a cup of baking soda down it and let it sit for about 5 minutes. The pour a cup of hot vinegar (white vinegar) down it. After all the fizzing dies down let it sit for another minute and flush with hot water. That should clean it out, and running some lemon slices through the disposal will give it a nice smell.
You can also make ice cubes out of vinegar and run them through your disposal if you don't have baking soda.
lemon or orange rinds, baking soda and ice, vinegar and water
baking soda, used coffee grounds, vinegar all three will do the job.
have to agree with the lemon and baking soda suggestions you have already received.
