Dremel Tool Engraving Bit?
Question:Is there a special trick to using this bit? Every time I try to use it, the bit skips around on the metal surface I am working on. I have only used it in the dremel tool with a simple on/off switch, I haven't used an adjustable speed one because I don't own one. I could probably borrow one if this model is needed instead.
I am trying to add some letters and numbers to a piece of sheet steel. The steel is not heat treated so it is in soft form. It is 4130, if that helps.

My husband suggest that you try making a more of a shallow cut or use a non electric engraver first.
try making a small template with wood.
Trying to control the tool while engraving is a real pain. The trick is to buy the router accessory for the Dremel. It makes control of the tool a breeze. Just go slow and not too deep at one time.
Use it just like a pencil, but be firm.You need to go at it on a down stroke.
