Help with building a cabinet?
Question:I need tips on building an entertainment unit.
Like where to start, where can I get the wood from, what kind of tools I'm gonna need, how much its likely to cost, etc.
It needs to be Oak.

Oak is expensive and one of the tougher woods. To do it all yourself, you'd have to find a local lumber yard to order the wood. If you don't want to buy an electric saw, you can have them cut it to spec. It'll cost you a bit more, but it'll save time in the long run, and for one cabinet it may be cheaper then getting the saw.Assuming you do it yourself (all) you'll need;
Straight edge ruler.
Some form of balance.
Circular saw.
Rasp file and finer file.
Sand paper (rough and fine).
Drill with bits
Y'know... I'd need to know more about how your doing it. Are you using locking joints? Nails? Screws? Glue? Wooden or glass doors?
I've my own basic tool kit with circular saw and electric drill. It all probably cost about $200 -$300 American.
I built a cabinet out of pine, the wood cost about $30 (I got it from the remnant's scrap bin at the lumber yard, otherwise it would have cost twice that) The glass doors cost about $20.
I jointed it (involves carving and glue) and did anchor screws for strength in four places (hidden). Brass hinges/handles (Free, got them off a cabinet someone threw out). So the cabinet cost about $50 ($25 UK)total to make, and about 20 man hours.
You will need a hundred square feet of oak for starters then a workshop to do all the work in and a few tools IE: a rip saw, a table saw and chop saw, a router and tools, a planer and thicknesser, a postdrill, a lathe would be useful a dovetail jointer,
and the usual handtools , hammers, saws, screwdrivers,sander,
glue pot, measuring tools.straight edge, square, screws, nails, glue etc. and finishing materials ,varnish and brushes.
Overall cost in the region of 120,000USD.

after reading ur quest. i think it wud b a beta idea 2 go dwn 2 the furniture store and purchase one due 2 ur lack of knowledge on all subjects. hope i have been some use to u.
