Need small fan for bedside that is QUIET --light sleeper. Air conditioning too noisy. What brand's good?
Question:Lakewood brand in my hardware store claims to be whisper quiet. Thermartake Blue (sp) also. Every "quiet" fan I have bought was too noisy---never whisper quiet. About given up. I am getting early start in my search. Please--serious answers only.

As one who LOVES air circulation at night, but not necessarily a low AC setting, I have found that a "reasonably" quiet fan is a great hypnotic. I also found this to be true for my grandchildren who slept over and were initially scared to be in a "strange" bed or bedroom (without mommy). I must admit that I never considered myself a "light sleeper", although now that I'm retired I do sleep a lot lighter than when I worked. I had to retire early due to a serious on-the-job accident, so I'm not an octagenarian or even not in my 60's or 70's. I'm in my mid 50's and so age is insignificant here, I assume, since I do sleep late in the morning after staying up late at night. But, I must admit that I try for the quieter fan myself, but have found that no one makes a fan that moves enough air around me that is as quiet as I like, so, I just have to accept the best I can find. I use ceiling fans now, predominantly, and, now that I thik of it, that might be "just-the-ticket" for you. Give it a try if you haven't. They may have a higher cost initially, and require some talent to install (although not much talent since I've installed several ceiling fans with the lights as well), but there's a lot of people who have installed them and you can probably find someone willing to install one for you free. God Bless you.
