How much yarn would it take to fill a bathtub?
Question:Hi! I'm a photographer and I'm looking to do a shoot with blue yarn in a bathtub instead of water. I know it's a somewhat ambitious (and possibly expensive) thing to do, but I was wondering if anyone could estimate how much yarn I would need (number of packages, or perhaps yards, or any other measurement). I'd also appreciate being pointed in the direction of websites that sell cheap synthetic yarn at wholesale.
Thank you in advance! :)

How about filling the first 6 inches with styrofoam peanuts and the you would only need 4 inches of yarn. I would guess maybe 10 skeins fluffed up would work.
First, it depends upon the size of the bathtub. Second, I used to knit, and the cheapest yarn I have ever found was in Wal-Mart.
Are you going to stuff the yarn in the bathtub, or just loosely loop it inside? For one can fit more compressed yarn than loose yarn.
you'd have to spin a tall yarn to fill a bathtub.
otherwise fill the bottom with insulation/pillows/somethingfl... and just let the yarn show on top.
not a big expense, whats stopping you?
Unless you're planning on unraveling all the yarn, maybe you could buy a bunch, and then return them to the store when you're finished.
Sounds like a great idea for a "shoot" but if no one is going to be in the tub anyway, and no one will see the depth, or know,,,use a piece of foamcore/ art board in the tub shape to a height that allows the illusion of full of blue yarn without the effort and expense.
Without knowing the amount/length of yarn on a ball or skein, and the fact that you will unravel some ( I assume to create a spill over effect) and that the tub is likely white anyway,,,any voids in the yarn, in any decent photography, using the white foamcore, will look like the tub bottom. Photography as you're talking about is a 2 dimensional issue, and I hardly think anyone will be trying to judge depth. If so. they are missing the point.

I'm not too sure yet until you give me a size of your bathtub.Only then I can give you an estimate and try going to Michael's.I don't know any websites that sell yarn.So sorry.Oh and have fun.
depends on the tub size and how tight u r going to pack it so you will not get an accurate answer here...it will take enough to fill it though lol /
