You need Pasting table, Bucket of paste (polycell is good), Brush to apply paste, Straight rule Wood or Metal, Sharp scissors or knife and a Clean Towel.
I always start on the corner left of the window and work to the right. Make sure that the wall is straight, you need a plumb-bob a long piece of string with a weight tied to it.
Measure the drop from ceiling to skirting add 6ins to the paper to give you a 3in leeway at each end. Before you cut your paper select two rolls it is easier to match patterns by you using 2 rolls. So you will now have your 1st run of paper
from roll 1, cut your second piece from roll 2, 3rd from roll 1, 4th roll 2 and so on.
Now comes the important bit lay the paper pattern down onto the table with the top to your left, liberaly add paste to paper ensuring that you put plenty on the top, sides and bottom. so that you do not drop or tread on the paper between table and wall fold it back on itself paste to paste. You will then have a smaller piece to take up the steps/ladder to your start position.
You may have to put some paste onto the wall if it is very absorbant.
Picking up the paper by the top place it on the wall then tease the folds out until the paper is roughly where it should be hung.
Using the Towel smooth out the excess paste, bubbles, wrinkles from the paper using a herringbone pattern. If you need to move the paper in any direction always pull it from the bottom upwards.
When you are satisfied that it is how it should be cut your second piece of paper from the 2nd roll and proceed as with the first piece.
By using 2 rolls together the waste will be about 6inches per piece cut but if you use only 1 roll you lose about a yard between pieces.
You will have to use a sponge or another towel to keep the paste table clean you do not want to get paste on the pattern side of the paper.
Final job, will be to trim the paper top and bottom usually best done when it #is semi-dry as wet paper has a nasty habit of cutting jagged. If the paper comes away it is easy to add some paste and towel it back in place.
GOOD LUCK
Wallpaper? It's so 70's.
Consider Faux Painting instead.

Oh babe, do not do it.
Get the wall plastered and buy some good paint.
Do not wallpaper, it is impossible!!
Like you, though I'm a guy, I diy, but never ever again will I wallpaper.
Hell, I'll buy the paint for you myself, as I never want anyone to ever use wallpaper again!
OK Start in the furthest corner of the room and if you are going to use a white embossed paper then get a plumb line and hang from the ceiling to just above the skirting...Then mark along the line with a pencil and butt ure first roll of paper to that line working to the left...Average width of paper is about 21 inches so make sure you go onto the wall to ure left at least two inches...Then trim off the excess paper on the left..This will give you a perfectly straight line to continue around the rest of the room...Good luck..
best thing you can do is google brewers
which is a painting and decorator wholesaler
and if you give them you details they will send you a booklet on how the pros do it

Get a decent size hammer and some 6" nails. You don't want all that sticky wallpaper paste stuff over everything!
Hi. I found when I started wall papering the best way to get good results was to cut it longer than needed then use a little blue-tak to stick it onto the wall. This allows you to match the pattern and see how it looks. When happy cut the paper to the right length and remove from the wall. Then apply the paste evenly and apply to the wall holding it at the top and working downwards. This way takes longer but your less likly to make mistakes. I hope this helps
Use a level to make sure you get the wallpaper on straight. You need to make sure you have plenty of paper because you will lose some of it in matching up your pattern. If it already has the glue on it make sure you wet it really good to activate the glue. Either in a wall paper tray or the bathtub. Make sure to keep smoothing over it with a wallpaper brush or towel to get all the bubbles out. Also if you have extra paper at the top or bottom from matching it up use a razor blade or carpet knife to cut (but wait until it dries up some It's hard to cut straight when it's wet. Hope this helps. Good luck.
When you purchase your wallpaper there will be extensive directions, but, it takes a bit of patience, with yourself that is. Use wall finisher, I didn't in my hallway and if I touch the wall the wallpaper moves, it's funny.
Number one...make sure you have plenty of razor blades and get a good snap off knife and blades. Razor blades should never be used more than 1-2 cuts and snap off blades the same. When you are wetting paper make sure you roll up so that the first end you pull out is the top. Pull out of water and lightly fold approx. 3-6" over and then pull that piece out the rest of the way. About half way lightly fold up and meet the top. Butt these two ends together but don't overlap. Make sure you do not "hard fold". Make sure your side seams are touching each other to avoid "dry-out". Let paper set-up for 5-10 min before putting on wall. As you take out of water and are folding you can fold accordian style so it takes less room.
Take 1st pc of paper and unfold top foldover. following your plumb line for the 1st pc lightly pat the top and sides as you unfold making sure to keep right side of paper level with plumb line. Take your broad knife and at top of wall/paper about center applying pressure run it down about15-18" then side to side at a slant. Do this all the way down to the bottom. This will help get out all the air bubbles. once paper is on wall, take sponge and wipe off checking for any air bubbles or wrinkles. If you find some, simply apply water from sponge by ringing it out and lift edge with corner of knife. Smooth back out with broad knife and work your way down again. Once everything looks good take a straight edge or even your broad knife and hold at ceiling on angle. Use snap off knife to cut top using knife as guide. DO NOT LIFT SNAP OFF KNIFE OR RAZOR BLADE FROM MATERIAL UNTIL YOU HAVE RUN THE ENTIRE WIDTH OF WALLPAPER. SLIDE THE STRAIGHT EDGE WITH THE BLADE TO ENSURE A NICE EVEN CUT. THROW RAZOR BLADE AWAY AND START AGAIN AT BOTTOM. If this is your first attempt to wallpaper I strongly advise not to get a drop pattern repeat paper or stripe for that matter. Try picking out a straight match. Most papers will say type of match on back if looking at wallpaper books.
It is also very helpful if you prime the walls first in new work if old pre painted walls, you must prime entire wall.
get some one else to do it then if it go's wrong you can blame them and not your self
