How to put grass on a balcony?
Question:I would like to make part of my balcony grass.how to keep the soil from running out when it rains plus any ideas on maybe building a giant planter box..maybe like 5 rolls of sod?

It is known as container gardening which comes in variety of shapes and is suited for indoors. you got to use a container for this purpose.

I actually like and agree with both 1 & 2. Depending on how much you want to sod, the issue is kinda like having a large "shower pan" BUT,,,should also allow some undersoil space, and hopefully the evaporation will take care of any drainage issues, unless you get heavy rain over an uncovered patio lawn.

Flower boxes might best be purchased and made of the PVC/Poly molded stuff so prevalent today,,,or a resin base to stand up to environmental issues. Wood, will need more maintenance, and will decay over time. OR,,,similar to what answer # 1 states, you might just get a POND shell, and use it as a contoured plant/garden area with sod around?
I guess I'd also want to be mindful of weight/stress on the balcony, considering that water weighs about 8.5 pounds per gallon, and wet dirt likely more.
If this isn't a house, but a multi family dwelling, you might be able to "Plumb" drainage so the next level down doesn't get your run off,,,whatever that may be.
