Lowering the ceiling?
Question:The house we live in has very high ceilings, with winter around the corner, what would be the easiest way to lower the ceilings? Rhino board or pine?
Answers:
Depending on budget, skill, and time/energy you wish to expend, you could install framework and acoustical tile panels, most often found in commercial use.
The drop is usually deep enough,,,8 to 10 inches, to allow for panel insertion and plumbing/electrical in a commercial setting.
Given that notion, you could install the frame work, have the panels you need, often 2x4...2x3, and add rolled, paper covered insulation above.
Just a suggestion... To my thumbs down crowd,,,"Bring it on!"

I agree with steven w, a drop ceiling is the easiest. But, don't forget about lighting, you can check out the many different types and styles out there. If you're not handy with electrical, it would be wise to have someone who is to do this. Don't like the look of the tile used in this application, check out the styrofoam ceiling tiles. Lots of designs available, and additional insulation to your existing. Framing in the new ceiling, covering it with 1/2 sheetrock, then applying the styrofoam ceiling tile. Can be painted too. Good Luck.
