How do I fix one window on a french door?
Question:We have an indoor french door with 3 rows on small windows. Only 1 of those small windows is broken. How do I repair the window without damaging the rest of the door? How do I get the glass back into the door without breaking the rest of the glass? I don't want to have to call the window man or buy a whole new door for 1 small windoe pane if I don't have to.

BTW the page was a little slow loading for me
the door frame is like a picture frame .the glass sits inside
and then thin strips of wood are nailed around the edges to hold it in...so look for the side of the door that shows it has the strips nailed in ,then gently remove the moulding strips replace the glass and nail the moulding strips back.it's pretty easy
The glass will either be held in wilt batons from the inside against a seal of putty. Remove the batons and tap out the pieces of glass. Use a chisel to chip out the old putty. Be very careful with how hard you hit your chisel as it may crack other panes of glass.
That is the easier if the two ways I know of.
The second way is the glass is held in with putty from the outside, it will be a 30 degree bevel, and that has to be chiseled out also.
If you have any doubts about your ability I would suggest you take the door to a glass merchant and they will do it all for you in a matter of minutes.
You will just have to let them know when you can come in, and of course you have some one at home to keep out unwanted guests.
Handyman.
