Carpet foam stuck to the floor? Best way to get it off?
Question:I have taken up my stair carpet and because it was foam based it has left horrible foam stuck to the nice wood steps. Although I've used a metal stripper there's still a foamy sticky residue and even a steamer is ineffective- I don't want to damage the wood underneath as it's dark wood, possibly mahogany. Any suggestions?

You will need to use some white spirits on it, and next time you put down foam backed carpet, put paper down first, who ever put it down in the first place must have been a right plonker.
scraper and care
How about Goo Gone or WD-40?
scraper and care
pull, or use a puddy knife and gently scrape it off
Sand it totally using a rough paper and then finer and finer until exactly how you want it. Restain and then varnish with a non slippy yacht varnish.
It will bring out the stunning grain in mahogany...or any other wood for that matter.
I used a wet mop and scrubbed it hard. Then just swept it up.
it was put down with pad glue, so to get rid of it use one of these items
paint thinner
100% mineral spirits
Oil flo safety solvent
apply to the glue residue let set a minute and try to rub off, use white cotton clothes anything with color and bleed and stain the wood.
Unfortunately the best method is to sand it off and restain. I know that is probably not what you want to hear, but if that foam has been there for a while it has probably discolored the stain underneath it. I would sand it down and restain it . Good luck.
Good luck! I dont have a solution. I had a similar problem, but luckily I was covering the floor with tile. I tried contractors solvent but it didn't do it and orange based cleaners don't work either.
I don't know how to remove it. But if you lay newspapers on the floorboards before laying the carpet, then the foam doesn't stick in the first place. Useful for the future I suppose.
mineral spirits; or you could sand down and re-varnish; mineral spirits seem llike best bet if you dont want to redo whole stairs
sugar soap or hot soapey water
There are electrically heated paint removers that look like hair dryers, THEY WORK
