Can you wire a ceiling lampholder to a plug?
Question:i've constructed a vivarium and wish to put an angled batten lampholder into the vivarium , i purchased one that was suitable for a ceiling as this was the only type and also a 2 core round flex .i just want to know if i can wire this type of lampholder to a plug using the flex?
Answers:
Yep, keep the bulb wattage to 40 - 60, DON'T use 100w bulb!
And put a 3 amp fuse in the plug.
Yes. Go get a cheep 3 prong extension cord. cut the receptacle end off strip it back to expose the wires . Hook it up, most important the ground wire is green.
you can if the cable is 2.5 mm ...not typical thin lighting cable ,make sure you have correct fuse in plug !! not 13 amp
fROM what i think your saying yes no problem? ensure the fuse is of the right amp though.
you need a thermostat to keep an average Temp
Use a 3a fuse in the plug, and make sure that the flex covering is well within the base of the batten fixing.
Hope your animals are happy in there.
What in christ name is a "Vivarium", but yes you could wire a ceiling fitting assuming there is no water involved, not ideal in the sense of safety as you may well have all the terminals exposed, good luck
If you are in the UK I would suggest a metal lampholder using three wires with the third wire connected to the holder and with its other end to the earth pin on the plug with a 3 amp fuse and a low wattage bulb. If elsewhere I don't knpw.
Yes you can wire a batten holder to a plug top, but make sure the cable is three core. Live, neutral and an earth core, to protect the cable. And a fuse to suit. A 1 amp fuse will allow 240 watt lamp and will ensure a safety
