Also any ideas for building a drawer to go on either side or possibly both for extra linnens..

I hope you have a well equipped shop for this all, that's quite an task your taking on.

The simple bed is easy, the rest, the drawers and etc, are going to be hard for you unless your experienced and have all the tools.

The bed is a simple box, made any way you want. You might find the plans for one on Woodworkers.com or Mieselhobbycrafters.com and, good luck

The first best method to determine the perimeter size of the bed is use a Queen Box Spring Frame measurement.
I often use the frame anyway and enclose them.

You state you want drawers which will mean somewhere in the construction phase you'll have to design the bed off the floor. The basic notion with a platform bed is that it appears to "Float" To create actual/attached drawers, might be more labor/time intensive than you need.

Certainly you can add your own bracing for a box spring, to replace the usual metal support frame, but I suspect you may be better off with a manufactured support, and perhaps buy under bed storage containers. The legs/wheels on the Box frame will allow room for sliding such, under the bed, while giving offering some illusion of floating. I just installed manufactured risers to a KING, that lift the box spring about 6 inches above what the leg height usually is.

The last one I built, I used Cedar, 1 x 12's and 2x2's to frame it. I counter sunk screw holes and used plugs over. I used Bolts to secure the finished frame to the Box Spring frame, and allowed approx 10 inches of open space below. I extended what would be the Head Board area to have built in side table/stands, that also floated.

Using 2x4's and good plywood makes a nice sturdy basic base.
A queen has no special braces, just a box with legs, screw the box together and bolt the legs on, we used plain ole 2 by 4's cut to whatever height you need to put the drawers underneath. Then staple a quilted padded fabric over the top and sides of the frame. Pre drill all your holes and it will be a lot easier.
