What can I use for VERY CHEAP walls for my haunted house?
Question:I have used a shed and my house for a haunted house every year. This year, I can't use my house and my shed is full of storage. I am trying to find some materials that I can use to build walls for my haunted house. Also, very sturdy. Things i've used that DON'T WORK or are TOO EXPENSIVE:
-PVC Pipes
-Wood
-Black tarps

The first year I worked for a haunted house we were on a tight budget. Our walls were made from shipping pallets which someone had located free and then covered the pallets in cardboard (also free if you have a good source)
Uhhhhhhhh. :S
Haunted house?
I'm sure.
The PVC pipes were my first thought. What size did you try to use? I should think that 1 1/2" would work rather well and be easy to take down and store. To make them sturdy so they don't fall apart just drill a small hole in the fitting and use a short wood screw to hold them together. Or You could buy a nice temporary shellter from Menards, add the walls and some partitions.
It's still early in the year, you should look at renting a building out. There are many stores or warehouse spaces you could look into, and the concrete floors of a warehouse would be easy to clean up. The haunted house that I worked in for a few years was in a warehouse that serviced vehicles, so there were pits in the floor that you could turn into tunnels or use to hide people in. Lots of fun.
I think plywood on simple framing is the best bet. You have plenty of time to shop for cheap wood. Go to places like Lumber Liquidators or buy the warped or damaged pieces from regular stores (Lowes, etc). It doesn't have to be pretty, right?
Call your local newspaper they sometimes have old pallets that you can take apart and use the wood. They also have large rolls of paper that are the "end" of a roll they use for the newspaper which you can use to wrap around the pallets of course after you have made your wall or even staple into they wood using a staple gun. I would they buy a can of cheap srapy paint and paint black. Wally world usually has their brand that is .99 a can. Since you are starting early it gives you a lot of time to collect the pallets and paper. There are several place around where I live that give out the pallets to get rid of them. Call the contractors in your area, some will let you come "clean" up after the work day. And take what you want. Cardboard boxes are usually free from stores that sell liquor which again with the wood for the pallets you should be able to do something. Yard sales for old sheets they can be spray painted too! Trash day for chairs, old picture frames, window and the likes for props ect... all you have to do is spray paint them too! White any light color usually works. Use sewing thread and duct tape for that just walked into a web feeling. On the duct tape all you have to do is use lenghts of thread all the way across tape to doorway. After you get the walls painted black use glow in the dark paint you can find a small bottle at any craft store for about a dollar or so to paint spider webs, cracks, I think you get the ideal.
