How do I cut this kind of hole with a saw?
Question:If I have a piece of wood that it 2 feet wide by 2 feet high and 2 inches deep for example, how do I cut a hole in the wood that is 6 inches wide by 6 inches high and only 1 inch deep? What type of saw could do this and how? I'm trying to fix my kitchen cabinet door.
Answers:
a router w/perimeter stops, or pattern clamped to face of door & bearing on bit depth set to 1 inch pennetration. Any lumber yard/home center can help
The tool is called an adjustable circle or hole saw cutter. It cuts in a wide rande of diameters, and depths. If I remember correctley,it's made by the Irwin co. They sell wood cutting bits of all sizes.Bye
Need more detail. Are you cutting this from the edge or in the center. Also, one inch deep in a 2 inch board will not cut a hole. You could adjust a circular saw to only cut one inch deep put you could not use it in the center of the board to make an exact cut. Better yet, why don't you just post what it is you are trying to do here and you may get better results. Cutting a door hardly seems like the way to fix it.
I dont think you have any specific saw just for this. you got to use a combination of tools to get this.

Good Luck
If I understand your question correctly you are trying to cut a 6"x6" hole 1 inch deep in a 2'x2' cabinet door 2 inches thick. I would not use a saw, I would try a Router.
you need a router with any flat bottom bit...
If you don't have a router, very carefully mark out the area you want to cut, including depth. Saw from the edge, using a tenon saw (the kind with a braced top edge). You can, with care, make both the cuts from the edge towards the middle to the correct depth. Then cut across to join them:
1 | | 2
| | Sorry - doesn't line up well, but you get the idea

Next saw several more lines from the edge to the middle - these can be rougher, but watch your depth. Finally, using a sharp chisel, remove thin layers of wood slowly until you reach the right depth.
sounds like a raise panel door to me.. or a mdf door thats been routed out in either case unless ur planning on spending some money on tools i suggest going to a local cabinet shop and asking them to build what you need. a raised panel door is actualy 5 pieces of wood all joined with differt profile bits.. not with a hole saw
After reading your previous question about fixing cabinet doors, I don't see why you would need to make such a large hole (6"x6"). If you can get away with a smaller hole2"-3" then you could use a forstner bit, it will give you the clean cut at any depth, a "hole saw" will not give you a clean cut because you would have to drill in 1" and then chisel out.
plunge cut it with a circular saw. set the blade to 1 inch. sand irregularities. you could also use a router if you have one.
you need to use a router not a saw
