I have a stone foundation on my house.?
Question:I have a stone fondation on my house an it stay' s damp all year round. I now have a problem with mold growing on the foundation. Is there anyone who could tell me how to seal my foundation so that I can get this mold cleaned up.
Answers:
Actually you don't want to seal it, you want to open it up and get some air flowing. I live in a old house with a stone foundation as well and we have the same type of problem. There are two things you can do: you get a dehumidifier and rig it up so it drains outside and let it run around the clock and dry the place out. That will take the musty smell out and over time will cause the mold to dry up.
The other thing that you can do, as long as you don't live in a climate where it gets real cold and have to worry about pipes freezing up, is put in several "vents" through the foundation that will promote air flow and help it to dry out under the house and get rid of the smell and mold.
You may also want to consider getting some mortar and mixing it up and going over the stone with it to make it generally smooth and then taking some DAP cement sealer and going over it. That will also help keep the moisture out.

First you need to clean the mold of with bleach or a fungicide. Then you will seal it with a breathable masonary sealer.
Water blast the mould of, it is a task that needs done, every few years.
