When building a fence is it necessary to have 3 support railings between post? I only have two between post.?

Question:I'm planning to screw the pickets into the rails. They are 6' dogeared pickets.

Answers:
If you only use 2, the boards will bend . 3 cross boards is a little much but for a few $ more you will have a fence that stays straight and vertical a whole lot longer. And good for you! All ways screw a fence together, if anything comes loose or is wrong it`s easy to fix, and it`s a lot stronger

Two will work. Three will work better.
at anything less than eight feet apart, only 2 are required.
I have never seen a picket fence with three cross rails. It would be extremely difficult to true up three faces to screw the pickets into.
I have a six foot fence that was professionally installed. The sections are eight feet long. It has three rails between posts.
The main reason for adding an additional rail is to reduce the possibility of the picket or vertical boards from bowing too severely. The middle railing keeps the boards aligned at the 3 foot mark and the fence (when viewed from the side) is more appealing since the boards are uniform and straight.

good luck
