Building a house?
Question:How big should the rooms of my house be?
: )
Answers:
I would need to know the size of the lot your building on first, then decide the square footage you want to use for the home. Plan a foundation, then make a draft based on those and then determine all the rooms you want and the allowable dimensions available for them! Start with that, it'll keep you busy for awhile, when your ready to start framing...give me a call!

If YOU don't know, how the heck should I know?
awsome are you an archeticter ok i spelled that way wrong. ok so you should make your rooms huge ok make the master bedroom huge with a sexy bath and it should be about 18 ft by 16
It depends what all you want in there, do you want or need walk in closets, how about a bathroom? the average size of most three or four bedrooms that would be considered starter homes are about 14x14.
That has to be a balance of how many square feet of space you can afford - weighed against what you foresee doing in each room (ie wanting a desk and work station in your bedroom, room enough to entertain ten people in your living room, etc.) You are just going to have to weigh what you can afford with what you want and sometimes there are compromises to be made like having the bedroom with room for a desk rather than a separate study. I would suggest researching what you can afford and then look at the floor plans of houses in your area to see what you like and how it looks once it is built.
Are you talking bedrooms? The master should be the biggest. I would say we have an average size house for our part of the country and ours go as follows. Master is 15' x 17' not including the bathroom and closet. Bedroom #2 is 10' x 14'. Bedroom #3 is 11' x 12'. Bedroom #4 is 10' x 11' which is very small in my opinion.
kitchens in most homes are around 12x14, master bedrooms 12x12 min. , additional brs 10x12, master bath 9x10 ,other baths 5x8 min., living rooms 14x14 or larger. all sizes are estimated. the hallways and steps need to finish no less than 36 inches wide. any bedroom has to have at least a 30 inch door and must have a window no less than 3ft. wide and 5 ft. tall due to fire code. hope this helps.
It really depends on how big you want them. There are several questions you have to ask yourself. Do you like things cozy? Do you plan to have a large family? Do you plan to live there long? What sells best in your community, large or small houses? Do you like ceiling fans? Maybe you would like high ceilings. If you want something small & cozy, at least allow for room to expand later. My preferance is large great rooms18 by 24 (give or take) for living or dining rooms. Slightly smaller for bedrooms 14 by 20. 9 ft ceilings & plenty of closet space. Linen closets are a must. Seperate room for washer & dryer & if possible, plenty of attic storage. Hope this helps.
Well this is broad. I suggest you find a website that has floor plans free to view. (dreamhomesource.com) Find a layout you like, keeping in mind you can tweak the plan as much as you want when you get your plans drawn. Find a local draftsman that will work with you and you can do whatever you want to that house.
A very open question. Make a plan of want you want to put in each room ie. pool table, lounge suit, beds single or double. A good size for bedrooms would be approx 3 x 4 metres of free floor space (so with out built in robes included). Your master bedroom would be say 4 x 5 to allow a little extra space. Remeber a budget can be restrictive so choose a plan that keeps passage ways to a minimum, after all you still pay for them and dont get use out of them.
one word, SEAMS...
make them in 12 foot widths...
I all depends on how much you can afford with out becoming
a prisoner of your own home and missing out on all life has
to offer because you are house rich and mortgage poor .
Plus you must estimate the cost of utilities to maintain and
run the house . Heat , elec., water/sewage , entertainment ,
phone/computer , lighting , etc. , plus life style . These are
all factors to be considered truthfully . You want to enjoy it
so you need to make real decisions .
