Is my shower right or left handed?

Question:I'm shopping around and planning a bathroom remodle. My current shower set up has the fauced and drain on the left hand side as your facing the shower. When looking up tubs and showers is this how to determine wheather your shower is right or left handed... as your facing it?

Answers:
Yes. You have the right idea.

You can order them any way you want them. Most showers come without the holes, and you (or your installer) drill them where you want them.

Your fixtures need to be plumbed on whichever end will allow for an access panel of some sort, in case you ever have to get to your drain, or water lines...
If either end will provide that type of convenient access, then it's strictly a matter of personal preference.
Personally, my husband & I have decided our next shower will be plumbed on both ends. :)
my opinion only is that I don't think they consider it a right-handed or left-handed shower. I think they merely put the hardware on the side where the pipes are located. If you don't plan to do the installation and working with the pipes when you remodel, I suggest you tell your contractor where you want what and if he can do that he will. He may need to get a permit to remodel that (or you may have to so check it out). I don't know if it still is the case or not but it used to be that anytime you remodel anything in your home your taxes used to go up.
Left side as you are facing the tub is the definition of left-handed.
There are definitely right and left handed shower units, which also applies to tubs and/or tub-shower combos. There is no pre-drilled hole for the faucets, so you can select from a wide variety of faucet options, but there is always a pre-drilled drain hole. The drain hole determines whether a unit is right or left handed, and is determined by facing the opening. If the drain is on the right, then it is a right handed unit. Plus, the units typically have soap shelves and other accessories that work in conjunction with the handed unit.
Bathtubs are right or left handed based on the drain location as you are facing the tub. Showers are only left or right handed if your drain is offset to one or the other side or it is a seated shower.
