Hardy Backer on Cement Floor?

Question:Hey folks,
I'm tiling a bathroom floor in a 70 year old house. The floor of the bathroom is cement, but has a few uneven places in it, so I'm planning on hardy-backer boarding before tiling. Obviously I won't be able to screw any hardy backer down...so will the thinset base be enough to secure the hardy board before I tile? Thanks!

Answers:
Why don`t you just use self leveling cement first ? Wait for it to dry ,and just set your tiles from there?

I think some self-leveling thinset will give you a better base than backer board. You'd still have to fill the joints in the board.
Backer board or dura rock is really a waste of time. I would suggest you fill all the cracks with an expanding cement filler.

Then I would use a self leveling thin set. Then use a really good quality mortar and set the tile.
Hardy-backer is a cement based backer board

You already have a cement base...

Even out the sections of the floor with the same thinset you are going to put the tile down with..
dont fit the backer board. you will not get a good enough fix.
use a latex self leveler if its real bad, if its not too bad and only a small area is at risk use a screed mix.
Talon has it right along with some others . How uneven is it ?
some times depending on this small problem you can just
use more thin set in that area to build it up for level tiling !
