Which type flooring would hold up best with dogs: hardwood, cork or bamboo?
Question:which type of flooring would resist the claws marks of large dogs?
Answers:
Hardwood. Specifically, Ipe (Brazillian Walnut) it's many times harder than Oak, Maple, Hickory, or Bamboo.
none of the above .
We have 4 golden Retrievers and 8 kids and we have hard wood. If you get a light kind of hard wood it won't show scratches as much.
None of the above. All will eventually mar or scratch. That's the life of owning a dog. As for best my guess would be hardwood.
Wasn't an option, but try tile.
laminate.. but i think u lose the "wood" look.. they are getting better tho. cork would be a no. for real wood-claws get into the woodgrain and starts to remove color. light scratches to me arent that big of a deal.. but in 5yrs it'll show pretty good. no idea on bamboo.. i believe its harder than real wood. if its a small area.. do laminate
Hardwood or bamboo, bamboo is expensive. Cork is good for a sound proofing I don't know about how well dogs like it.
After installing thousands of sq. ft. of flooring, and owning dozens of dogs, certainly any answers will be personal preference in large measure. All so far are certainly valid in experiences each might have.
With all due respect to you, if you're concerned about "marks" then you are probably less concerned about your animals. One answer offered the best of solutions, suggesting TILE.
I happen to like Bamboo for a few reasons. It's likely as durable as any flooring, despite what anyone says. It's also designed, by nature, to be one of the most recyclable flooring materials, on the planet.
None of these are good for dog nails. Cork will be the worst. The best choice for you will be Barry Laminate. It is the only floor that address the nail problem of large dogs. It comes in narrow boards that look just like real wood and sound real wood. It is also printed in high definition with wood like grain. Its amazing, I have been selling real wood for 30 years and I was impressed.
