Put up insulation in attic wall, has fire warning on paper side. Do I need to cover insulation in attic?
Question:I put up insulation in attic wall. the paper side of the insulation has fire warnings saying it's flammable and should be covered. Do I really need to cover it in my attic, or is that just a general warning not to leave it uncovered in places that might be near a stove or open flame somewhere else in the house?
Answers:
Just leave it alone! The warning is as you suspected.
Do not get the paper side of the insulation near a heat source or it will burn. This type of insulation should not be placed over light fixtures or near heat vents.
The paper side of the insulation should be on the underside in the attic. It is a vapor barrier. The insulation should be open on the top side.
The paper side should go towards the warm part of the house. so it will not be exposed. The insulation needs to be at least 6" away from and can lights unless they are IC rated. Also if your putting the new insulation over old insulation you must pull off the paper anyways.
