How do lights work?

Question:how do they work

Answers:
When electricity is supplied through a wire resistance causes the wire to heat up, the thinner the wire and the higher the voltage supplied the hotter the wire will get.
Light bulbs have inert gas within the air space of the glass bulb that prevents the wire from burning out.

All the best.
works by incandescence. An electrical current passes through a thin filament, heating it and causing it to become excited, releasing thermally equilibrated photons in the process. The enclosing glass bulb prevents the oxygen in air from reaching the hot filament, which otherwise would be destroyed rapidly by oxidation.
Electricity is made at a sub station which then flows through high voltage wires 40000 - 80000 volts, then electricity is stepped down through transformers either on a pole or on the ground. This is where your home gets its main panel feed from, usually by 4 ott wire. Your panel then isolated different circuits through circuit breakers or fuses. Wiring is connected to the breakers by means of the Black wire being hot, your white wire and ground will be connected to a ground bar, so the black wire carries electricity to the source, which in your question would be the switch and the white wire carries it back completing the loop. From the switch now that it is hot is a toggle switch if you will, Up is on and down is off. Another pair of wires carry the electricity from the switch to the light.
the lights are on but there is no one in,turn your off and go to sleep.
I'm in the dark on this one!
Pay the bill, flip the switch.
incandescent lamps have a fine filament in them that when electricity gets to both sides of it, it glows. Florescent does not have that filament, they are gas filled with a conductor in the gas

As for the light at the end of the tunnel it gave us something to work towards to when the tory`s were in power. But then along came labour and turned it of to raise funds.
You need many hands, haven't you heard "many hands make light work"...
