Help, I need a composite material like Corian because..?

Question:..I want to replace the horizontal tiled surfaces either side of my bath with a material easier to maintain. Some sort of composite material like Corian is one option. I've also thought of thickened glass, granite, or marble, cut to size and bedded into (and sealed around with) silicone. I only need thre or four pieces, 2 approx 22x66 cms and one or two 9x180 cms. Any suggestions where I could get offcuts or alternative materials reasonably priced? I'm Based in Central Reading, Berkshire.

Answers:
Corian, granite, marble and toughened glass good ideas and I'm sure that they would look well but trying to get those sizes as off cuts, would like trying to find ...rocking horse droppings. If you did get a size close it would have to be cut and the edges polished which would be expensive.
Their is another product like corian called LG Himac if there is a local kitchen manufacturer that uses it, it maybe possible to get it cheap. http://www.lgchemeurope.com/466.html...

Another idea is to use a plastic tongue & groove sheet with a marble/granite effect. I have seen them used in bath and shower areas, they can look good if well installed. They have seamless internal and external corners. They would be a cheaper alternative and l think they are available at B&Q or Homebase.

The original idea of granite or marble would look classier though would be more expensive.

Go visit a bathroom showroom, they will have everything you need
Pretty much answered your own question.
Ask around at suppliers of the materials you mentioned.
Scraps should be available from most in the small sizes you need.
Glass in particular is often salvaged.
Ask to see what is available on the pile & then see about price & cutting.
Corian is cast to order but you might get lucky & find a broken countertop.
Best regards
In the stats Corian comes in 1/4" and 1/2" sheets. We used 1/2" on countertop and 1/4" for backsplashes and shower enclosures. We always had pieces left over, i.e. window cutouts, sink cutouts, etc.

If you check around you may find a fabricator that keeps his scraps around. A web search of Corian+Berkshire UK yielded many fabricators, just dial one up and ask.
