How do you cut tempered glass?
Question:I have a piece of glass that was a sliding glass door it is 80" long, I need to cut it 55 3/8" long, I tried one and it shattered what do i do?
Answers:
You have to cut it before it is tempered. If you cut it and scratch it, it will shatter.
So you need to buy a new piece of glass. Sorry,
Find someone with a water jet cutter they are fairly common among metal fabricators and will cut anything including tempered glass.
you're screwed. you will need to precut to the size, then temper it. the tempering process places the outside edges at a different stress level (extremely high) versus the center. when one propagates a crack in tempered glass, the difference in stress causes the whole piece to release its stress.
there are local companies all over that service industry with special made to order glass. a piece like what you are talking about will run 100-200. In our area, the company name is Glass Enterprise.
shatter this one so they both match
try a wet saw
you will probably wont sucsceed.
