Re-Plumbing ...?

Question:I am getting ready to replumb my house and it should be fairly easy - The well tank, water softner and hot water heater are all in one room. The kitchen is only on the other side of the wall and the bathroom is directly above the utility room also ;-)

The house has old galvanized pipe which has about met its maker, so now I am going to replace it all with PVC. I was thinking about 3/4 main pipe wrapping around the room with 1/2 running off to all the sinks, toilet, tub... What do you think? Would think provide good volume as well as pressure? Should I use schedule 30 or 40?

There is no worry of freezing, since the room also contains the furnace and is heated.

Answers:
Use schedule 40 for sure. Also, I would add a water hammer device somewhere in the line. There are all kinds, or you can stub off 2 short upright dead end lines. Good time to replace all those old 1/2 inch shutoff valves, as well as add one for an icemaker if you don't have one. Good plan.

Those should be overkill, actually. If your concern is with water pressure, however, you may want to consider copper.
The 3/4" idea is not a bad idea.

For your hot water you should be using cpvc pipe. pvc is not recomended for hot water. cpvc will be kind of a yellow or tan color pipe and will say hot or cold water on it.
