How do I fix a screen window for free?

Question:Umm..anyways, my friend and I broke into my house on Friday because we were locked out. I haven't told my parents...it's a big gap. My little brother knows, but hasn't told. Anyways...how do I fix it? I'm covering it up with a fan...but how do I fix it? Do I have to sew it back? What do I do?

Answers:
Most screens are held in place with a rubber bead that is pushed into a slot. It's not going to be free to replace it, but it is not expensive. You buy a piece of screen, usually nylon, and pull out the rubber bead, lay the new screen over the frame and push the bead back in with a special roller tool that you buy at the hardware store. It is very important not to pull the screen too tight as you do this or it will deform the frame. Visit the nice people at your local harware store to help you. Or take the screen to a glass shop, they can do it for you, but either way, it won't be free!

to fix a screen you take the frame off, unscrew the two halves of the frame and put a new piece of net into it. For a big gap, repair is not an option. It won't be too difficult, just try to get the same colour screening.

If you look around, your parents probably have a spare piece, in the garage or the loft?
Tell your parents. Parents always find out anyway, and the consequences are double because you sneaked the repair. I also doubt very much you'll be able to repair it yourself. Tell them.
You can't fix this for free.unless you know someone who will fix it for you. The screen has to be replaced. Kits can be purchased from a hardware store. You will need spline, screen and a tool especially made for replacing the spline. The spline is long rubbery stuff that holds the screen in. The tool looks similar to a pizza cutter. This is a very inexpensive repair but not free.
