How can I get a more even colored paint job on my walls?

Question:I am using dark blue & by the time I rewet my roller & meet where I left off the color is darker where they meet. I primed first with a blue primer. HELP!!

Answers:
I painted one wall in my living room dark wine red. I had to paint over it 3 or 4 times to get the colour even. You will have to do at least 2 coats to make it a smooth even finish. I did the same thing in the other rooms most needed 2 coats of paint.

You were smart in using the tinted primer otherwise you would have needed about 6 coats of paint.

Try a paint pad - they give a better coverage.
use a roller not a paint brush and make sure you do a second coat the first is always patchy
it will go darker as it dries - thats why you are having an issue. Keep painting & leave it to dry. You may need to give it another coat or two if you are painting over a light colour
Deep tint colors do not cover as well as lighter ones. If you don't prime first you'll end up spending a lot of money needlessly to get good coverage. You should have gotten primer and had it tinted the same color as the paint. This will give you good coverage and primer is generally less expensive than paint. Then use your finish coat over the top. Hopefully, you're in a position still to do this. Good luck!.
The trick is for the DIYer is to paint one wall at a time, you do your cuttin-in top and bottom, and down the sides.
Then you roll, also, slightly water down your paint specially for the first coat, this will give you a better base to work on.

Like op says, with darker colours you have to 3-4 coats sometimes to get a perfect finish.
two things. You will probably need a second coat because it's a dark color. Are you painting in a "V" and then filling in? This will help prevent the "lines" you see. BUT, even with primer on, you will need a second coat.
as colour dries it goes about 2 shades darker, make sure you do 2 coats too. use a roller or a pad and don't overload them with paint. each wall will look a little different as the light reflects on it too. hope this helps!!
roll using the W method, just make wwwwww's til it's all filled in. No lap marks.
