Electricians are always necessary. In Alberta, Canada they can make over $100 000/year for a journeyman. Most trades have good starting wages. In Alberta, you work 10 months, go to school for 2 months, and do this for 4 years to get your certification. You get paid for on the job training. Our friend is a journeyman electrician in the field (not residential) and makes enough money to live in a huge house, and support a wife and 4 kids (2 with severe disabilities).
You should be somewhat fit, somewhat mechanically inclined, a bit of a perfectionist and not be allergic to hard work!
