I need to paint?

Question:I'm painting my bathroom which has spots heavy clumping underneath a coat of paint. How do I approach getting out these big clumps before painting a good coat down? I also Can't seem to remove heavy tile mildew in the bathroom no matter how hard I scrub, any tips?

I get so sick of people making "Kilz" out to be a mildew killer, go to their site and read it, "Kilz" does nothing for mildew like any other paint/stain killer/sealer or any other wonder remedies you can come up with. YOU MUST REMOVE MILDEW before you put any kind of paint on. You need to sand these so called clumps and then spray your mildew areas with a product from Zinseer called "Jomax" it now comes in a ready mixed spray like a windex, spray it on and watch the mildew disappear I guarantee it. Then get their mildew resistant bathroom paint also guaranteed for 5 yrs against mildew and your all set, Good luck Les the painter

Sanding is the answer to lumps. A mildew removal product may be the answer to your stains. Try a home center and see if they don't have something commercial/industrial.
There are primer paints or coating from a brand named Killz that takes care of mildew.
Do hard sanding..this is only way.than before making any color coat..apply thin coating of white...than apply the paint you want to do...results will be good.
Clumps? ?. You mean bumps, grit under the paint, or sags or bad drywalling? In any and all cases, sandpaper maybe using 80 grit first and get the major lumps off, then switch to 100grit and sand further (which is also sanding out the heavy scratches of the 80, and then further to 120 grit to sand smooth enough to prime first(and let that dry 24 B4 putting on finish paint color).
for the mildew.Use bleach/water mix. You may have to regrout.
The first thing you need to do is to get rid of the mildew. The easiest way is to get a empty spray bottle and fill it with straight bleach. Spray the mildew and let it set for about 10-15 minutes. You must have addiquiet ventilation when you do this, you will see the mildew change colors then you take a sponge, scrub brush, or rag and scrub the mildew off. you need to have old clothes on too, then after all of that go and retnt a sander from a rental place to make it easier.
