i would ask a plumber lol good luck
go to your phone book and call your local plumbing contractor!
This is quite an easy job. Measure the size of the existing tank and fittings then go to your plumbing merchant and explain what you want to do. They will probably recommend a plastic tank. Ask them to supply spanners of the size of the fittings you are buying and spanners that will fit the existing tank fittings. First you have to turn off the water and drain down the tank by turning on the taps. Dismantle the inlet with the ball valve and the overflow pipe. You may need to use some WD 40 which you can purchase at the plumbers. You will need a Plastic cutting holesaws to cut out the holes for your overflow and inlet, again from your plumber then reassemble the new tank and fittings in the opposite way to which you dismantled it. Turn water back on and check for leaks before filling all the way.
without the tools = plumber
If the tank is in the roof you need to take its sizes and get a new one from your local diy store. Turn the mains water of and drain off the water via the cold water tap down stairs.
Once it is empty you need to disconnect the feed water supply to the tank and the outlet pipe from the tank.
Once you have done this you will need to remove the old tank from its location and replace it with the new one.
The new tank will probably come supplied with no holes for the pipe work so you will need to use a hole saw and drill to cut the new holes.
Make sure the hole saw is the correct size (Normally 22mm), after cutting the new holes all you need to do is re-fit the pipe work. Make sure you fit new gaskets to the bulk head fittings.
Once it is all back together turn the water back on and let the tank fill up with water. You will need to check the level of the water in the tank and may need to adjust the float valve if it over fills.
if you have the know how and the proper tools and fittings its really quite easy , having said that there are regulations to be adhered to (water byelaws to be precise ) so get in the professionals water can make a real mess of ceilings and electrics dont like water much either . price wise £250 would be about norm should take about 3 hours unless you need a new tank base and supports the older galvanised tanks never had full base supports where the newer plastic tanks require full base support .
Shut off the cold water supply to the water tank, then open all your hot taps to drain the water from the tank. Undo all connections to the tank, and remove it. Next remove all the fittings from the old tank to fit onto the new one. Go to plumbers Merchant and purchase tank of the same dimensions. You will also need to buy a hole cutter to cut holes for the fittings to be fitted in the new tank. Measure and cut new holes into the new tank and replace fittings complete with the washers. Reconnect new tank. turn off all taps and fill tank with water. Check water level and adjust as needed. if all is well, turn on hot taps one at a time to clear any air in the pipework. Job Done.
