How to set ceiling fan?
Question:moved into a house with fan on front porch, should button be up or down ? right now it is down, but can not tell that it is doing anything.
Answers:
I installed mine two years ago and it had a button as well. The instruction manual said to switch the button to down position for Summer and up position for Winter.
By setting the switch in down position, fan will blow the air toward people. In up position, fan will blow the air toward the ceiling and circulate hot air trapped in ceiling to the floor.
if i remember right when the switch on the base of the ceiling fan is down that is blowing air on to you (easiest way to explain it)
if the switch is Up then it is pulling the air up away from you
I'm pretty sure that's the way it is it's been a while since I've had a ceiling fan
Easiest way to test it is to shut to get a chair / ladder (depending how high the ceiling is) and get near it (not so close you get hurt) and see if u can feel any air then shut it off switch it the other way and do the same thing
Good luck
Make sure the bolt holding the blades on is really tight! Ihave seen one unscrew and sythe through the air like
boomerang!
First thing I would recommend is to see if the fan has a pull chain switch. Most ceiling fans have them for the fan and for the lights. Flip your switch to the ON position. Irregardless of how it was installed (up or down), one side will say ON and one will say OFF. Make sure it is ON and see if pulling the chain switch will make it work.
If the fan doesn't have a pull switch, then it gets more complicated since you will need to access the fan's wiring to see if there is current present when you flip the wall switch.
If you do not have any working knowledge of electricity and it's dangers, this can be a very bad thing to attempt and I would recommend you get an electrician or handy man to check it out for you.
Several things could be bad including the switch, a breaker or house fuse that is out, bad wiring or even a bad ceiling fan and the only way to find out where the problem lies is to eliminate each possibility by using a voltage meter and getting at the switch and the fan wiring.
