HVAC question. mismatched evap, cond, and comp..?

Question:assuming typical electric heat strips, (3 @ 5kw), and air handler to match, how much room do i have in matching ac components for a 2500 sqaure foot home? 3 br 2 bath basic brick, normal exposures. texas and 400 cfm for ac. 3 ton compressor.

Answers:
3 ton will not be big enough for your home.considering you live in Texas i would get a four ton unit ..most likely you would be better off to replace everything ....you need to have some come and give you a estimate and do your heat loss/gain calculations...this will give you a better idea of what you will need and whether your old air handler can be used with a/c

A load calc needs to be down inorder to properly size your system. With todays energy standards it would best to get it done and IN WRITING. If you have access to natural gas a heat pump would not be worth the extra cost.
