Depending on how large your "main" windows are, try buying twin/queen/child [depending] size sheets. Nowadays, sheets come in every luscious color and pattern imagineable--and [ta-DA] they are already hemmed! The large [top] hems can be opened at each end and curtain-rods slip right in...and you can hem the other ends to suit the lengths required. Fast fix and probably something your gran would Not Approve Of, but I've gotten away with it for yonks!
Easy...Start with sheets...Add some form of decoration or ruffle to them and you have nice inexpensive curtains.
I've had great success using ready made tablecloths. The most important part is to find oblong cloths, not round or oval. Depending on the size of your window, you will use one or two cloths. To make the curtains, you can:
Turn one edge over a few inches (depending on your rod size) and sew it to form a casing to slip your rod through.
Purchase clips, measure regular increments and slip them onto a decorative rod.
Have fun!
measure your window add six inches or so on both sides also factor in the design of curtain you want. some design will require a width that is 1 1/2 to 2x the width of your window for shirring. a simple and easy one to make is a get piece of fabric then using fabric glue or fabric tape that can be ironed (no sewing is needed) for hemming then you can buy metal rings with clips then you can hang your curtain on a rod.
