Need help with dishwasher float assembly?

Question:i have a whirlpool dishwasher (1994) and i pulled out the float which required a bit of force, is this supposed to snap back into place or is it meant to freely come off the throat. i don't think it was attached to the float switch. any ideas?

Answers:
When you pull out the float you should see that there is a rod attached to the bottom of it and at the bottom of the rod there should be a small rubber stop... the rubber stop is to prevent the float from lifting out of the tube that the shaft goes into... Thats why it was so hard to remove...You need to make sure that the float shaft and stop are still there. To reinstall it you simply slide the shaft into the tube and make sure that it moves up & down freely... The float shaft rests on an actuator arm that is attached to the switch...Theres nothing that snaps together it just rest atop of it... When you lift the float up & down you should be able to hear the float switch click... Hope this helps

it will work if you just set it back on there. but if you want to put it back it snaps back into the float switch from the bottom of the dishwasher. make sure you turn the poweroff before trying to put it back
