I need to design/install a motion-sensor sprinkler system to keep my cats in their own backyard. Ideas?

Question:ScareCrow from Contech keeps animals out with a wide spray, too wide, and that would prevent my cats from enjoying their own yard. I just need to route the sprinklers around the perimetry of the wooden privacy fence so when the motion sensor(s) detect them approaching the fence they will get dowsed at about 3 to 4 ft in from the fence and go back into the yard and stay home. I have contacted irrigation companies here in San Antonio but no reply yet on the motion-sensory activated part of what I want, just the sprinkler/irrigation part. I have seen motion sensors that turn on lights, open garage doors, close curtains, but other than ScareCrow I have not seen any information about tripping a sprinkler system. I have even thought about the produce section misting systems that come on intermittently. Any ideas would be very welcome.

Only way I can see of doing this is to get a motion detection light fixture and wire the sprinkler solenoid for that zone to the electrical (light portion) of the detector.

sounds like a large waste of water.

Every bird or squirrel or anything else will set it off. The sprinklers will be going just about all the time.
www.provenrepellents.com search for scarecrow.
It is exactly what you want, motion activated rotor-type sprinkler. 70 bucks! Heeeere kitty kitty.
Why not try a battery operated electric fence. The shock is so minimal you barely feel it. It does however make dogs and cats think twice about going in these designated "off" areas. Plus - after a week or so the fence does not even have to be on.
