What can I use to drill holes through a 2" thick piece of cement.?
Question:I am clueless. Thanks.
Answers:
use a hammer drill and a bit specially designed for masonry
A Masonry bit. Go to Home Depot or Lowes or Ace Hardware
By using a masonry drill bit
go to the hardware store and get two carbide drill bits. if you hit a steel re- bar it will smoke the carbide bit and you will need another. keep slow pressure and dont try to force it and it should go through in a couple of minutes.
Just go to any hardware store and buy a concrrete bit for the size you need. They fit any standard drill, and are not very expensive, usually under five bucks
Buy a cement drill at a home supply store in the desired size.
They made drill bits especially for cement. Go to your local Lowe's or Home Depot to purchase one. They also come in different sizes (1/4", 1/2", etc.) so check first before you go to buy to see which size you need.
for small diameter holes use a hammer drill, for large diameter holes use a rotary hammer. for BIG HOLES use a core drill. You should be able to rent the tool and bit from your ACTION RENTS or A-1 RENTS type places. A Bosch hammer drill cost about $140 new, a Bosch rotary hammer cost $200 to $800. Dont know what a core drill cost, but Milwaukee sells them. Good luck
You must use a hammer drill number one, and a hammer bit number two.
If you are drilling a large hole (1 inch or bigger) use a series of smaller bits first, say 1/4" then 1/2" etc.
When drilling pull the drill out of the hole after every half inch or so to let the residue from the action come out of the hole, this also keeps your bit cool.
You don't need to go fast or you will "fry" the drill bit.
You might want to purchase more than one bit.
WATCH OUT FOR the concrete rebar rods these are metal and will burn a hammer bit up in seconds.
i presume you have a drill, if you dont you need to get one either buy or hire out for the day. also you will need a masonary drill bit, explain to the hire shop approxamately what size hole you want and he will give you the appropiate drill bit...ps make sure the drill is a hammer action.
best of luck
Use a concrete drill. they make them in many sizes to fit different size drill motors. In a bind you can rent them.
A masonry bit works for that, preferably with a drill with "hammer-drill" feature.
by a mortar bit, depending on how wide you want the hole.
