Compact ball valve hard to turn...?

Question:I'm replacing a compact ball valve that is attached to our swimming pool pump. The valve on the new piece will turn, but it is very stiff. Will it loosen up over time, or is there something (like WD-40) that would make it easier to turn?!?

Thanks! I'm a novice, so any advice would help!

Answers:
A ball-valve is the best type of valve (as opposed to a gate valve, etc.). Actually, you want it to be "stiff" to open. It should get easier with use, however don't attempt any "quick-fix" methods, you'll be defeating the purposes for which it was installed.
