Can you make a new household socket from an exisiting one?
Question:wat i really mean can you add a socket from another wall socket to make a new one and is it safe
Thanks in Advance
Answers:
Absolutely! It's safe as long as you know what you're doing!
But we do it all the time.
Turn the power off first. Switch the circuit breaker off. Verify that the power is off (plug something in). Once it's off:
Unscrew the cover (middle screw).
Unscrew the outlet from the box (top/bottom screws).
Pull out the outlet. If it's in the middle of a run, there will be two big white-plastic insulation covered wires that each have their insulation cut away, exposing 3 copper wires from each. There's a black wire, white wire, and plain copper (the grounding wire) coming from each. They connect in to the back of the outlet. The blacks are inserted into holes on the top/bottom of one side (or they are wrapped around screws), and the whites are inserted into holes or on screws on the other side. The copper wires are probably tied together with a third wire that's screwed onto the outlet.
If it's the "end" of a run, you'll only have wire bundle coming in, and the white/black/copper will all be on one side only. To add to this run, you'd run an insulated wire into the box, split out the white/black/copper wires, and just connect them to the other side. Then run that wire to your new outlet and screw the other end of the wires onto that. Tada, a new outlet.
If you insert a new outlet into the middle of a run, between two existing outlets, you'll just break the wire and connect the two ends into each side of the outlet.
But you could just as easily run the electricity from the wires at the one outlet, tying the like colors together.
Honestly though, you should get a good book on Basic Electricity from Home Depot or Lowes or any hardware or book store. It's really not that difficult to do, but you need to see diagrams and have the right tools.
Yes, for as long as the wire connection is still working and the appliances or items that your will plug-in that additional wall socket would not exceed to your circuit breaker's capacity.
Be sure to turn-off the circuit breaker, check the proper wire connection, tighten the screw that fits the wires and proper insulation.
just to make sure the power is switched off.
As for the person touching the live wires ouch dont bother me I just eat it for lunch I wish I had a dollar for every time I got zaped LOL
