How to make aquarium tank?
Question:I want to make my own aquarium tank. I want to know where I can get glue for acrylic tank as well as glass tank.
Answers:
Don't expect to make a big tank and have it last, start with a small size, and test it out, learn how to do it correctly on a cheap tank!. Glasscages.com sells the plastic "frames" that go around the top and bottom on the tank, glass tanks use aquarium silicone to hold them together, and acrylic tanks use a type of plastic solder, its a solvent type liquid that melts the pieces into 1, home depot sells a small package useful for your test tank, its looks like a tube of superglue with a metal permanent marker (old style).
You need special safety glass, and you would get it from a Glazier or glass shop. You are going to need special metal fittings. You cannot just glue glass together. The pressure inside tank would push sides out.So I would suggest you ask a glass shop or a hardware shop. Good Luck!
There are some amazing sealants these days even silicone will hold glass together but it might not be fish freindly. I would be concerned that the acrylic would scratch quite easily, even when cleaning the tank you might get swirly looking scratches that would collect dirt and algea. You might ask at the local pet store or fish store and see if they can hook you up with a DIY suplier
