I am considering purchasing a cheap electric 8 inch mitre saw (210 mm blade).?
Question:This is to be used to mitre 120mm wide skirting board all around the house as well as several door architraves. The max cut of this machine is 120mm so should be enough for the skirting but I am unsure if this length of cut is reduced when using a 45 degree angle. The machine has no slide facility as its cheap. As far as I know it rotates when 45 degrees is required. I wondered if anyone has experience of using these cheaper 8 inch mitre saws for cutting and mitering skirting boards and if it will be sufficient for the job in hand. As I have no other use for it I do not want to purchase a sliding version as these are at least 6 times the price. My main concern is that the length of cut will not be sufficient at 45 degrees or that the skirting will be too wide for the saw. Any help appreciated.

I have a small 8" miter saw that I use for hobby work. If using on a 45 degree{tilted blade} the saw will give me the same cut as a vertical 90 degree cut. If yu swing the table over to 45 degrees, the cut will be somewhat shallowier. I can , compensate for this by flipping the board over, and cut from th backside of the board.
Have you considered joining your local freecyle group (freecycle.com) you could get one for free that works but is no longer needed.
You get what you pay for in tools. I would go to a rental shop if I were you and get a really good one, cut all your stuff in a weekend, then return it. It would probably cost the same as purchasing a cheapo model that may only give satisfactory results!
You should buy a basic 10" instead. The price is not much more and well worth the difference. The 10" will handle what you are cutting and more.
Buy the cheap one. It may not make the cut through the 45 miter but you can flip the skirt and finish the cut from the other side. I have done this many times. Just take your time when finishing the cut to insure you are exactly positioned in the initial cut or miter.
i wouldn't waste my money on a 8" saw, the very minimum i would buy is a 10",
