Best thing to remove old wallpaper?
Question:what chemicals besides wallpaper remover can you use to remove old wallpaper that is really stuck on there?
Answers:
It depends on the type of wallpaper.
If it's in a bathroom or kitchen, it's probably vinyl and will need to be scored before removal. (This is because the top layer is water resistant, so anything you sponge on will not get through easily.) To score it, you can use a variety of things, but I like a product called the Paper Tiger. It's available at home centers near the papering products. Just run it over the paper and it scores (cuts) lots of tiny holes in the paper to let the liquid through to the backing. You can then sponge on your removal product--diluted fabric softener works, as do the commercial products designed exclusively for wallpaper removal. Wait a few minutes for the liquid to penetrate, then scrape.
If you have regular, plain paper wallpaper, then you can skip the scoring step. Just sponge on your removal liquid, wait, and scrape with a paint scraper.
After either method, wash the walls well with clear water after scraping to remove the fabric softener as well as any residual paste. This will start to prep your walls for painting.
Best of luck!

Steam is best. Just steam the paper, wait 2 mins and peel! Alternatively, just leave a todler in there unattended.
If you're not in a hurry you can get away with not using any chemicals...
Just use a sponge, warm water, and a scraper...give it time and then scrap it off :)
I just saw on Home and Garden that you can use a mixture of water and liquid fabric softener to remove wallpaper. You have to remove the top layer first then spray the mixture on, let it sit then it just scrapes right off.
A friend of mine says she uses vinegar and water and it worked like a charm.
I saw on one of those remodeling shows that fabric softener will remove wallpaper quite well. Just brush it on and let it stand for a while, then it just sloughs off.
Get agarden sprayer and put hot water in it
start at the top of wallpaper and soak with water
Let sit for a few minutes and paper should peel in big strips
If it is really stuck you might need to score paper first with a paper scorer to get little holes to the glues area of the paper
Either way it is a big job good luck
I like DIF. Tried many things and this is the best, by far.
Last year I had 3 paint professionals give estimates for removing wallpaper and texturing wall for painting in 2 baths and kitchen. All 3 professionals said the paper had been professionally installed and would damage the sheetrock if removed. They each recommended sealing the paper & texturing over it.
I did have it done that way by a professional. A year later, it looks great and I see no indications of problems.
I use warm water and vinegar. After you scratch the wallpaper with the tool you can pickup at any homecenter. Apply the mix with one of those garden spray applicators (pressure type) and wait 10 to 15 minutes. The vinegar nuetralizes the glue with out the odors from the chemicals.
A case of beer and several gullible friends!
