Running two compressors together?
Question:Besides connecting them with some sort of a y-pipe is there anything else needed? I am wanting to hook up 2 compressors, one a 20 gallon, other a 26 gallon, the cfm difference is by about 1-2 from the 20 gal to the 26 gal.
I need this for more consistant pressure and air flow for my paint gun to paint cars with.

As long as you're not blowing breakers it will work fine. Having a larger tank fed by the two compressors would be better. You'll need a dryer to take any moisture out of the air as well. A little bit of moisture when painting cars can make a big mess on the finnished product.
Connect them to a tank with two separate inlets.
Forgive me; I have no real answer; and I own compressors for painting, etc. I also haven't sprayed a car since the 70's, but might this not also depend in some measure on the storage capacity of the two individual tanks, and setting the gauges to coordinate in pressures as they diminish and having the compressor motors fire up when need be? I can't imagine any being so finely tuned to simultaneously run/shut off/run.
With all due respect I understand the issue. 20 gallon is hardly enough capacity for consistency. The shop I worked used 100 and 200 gal. capacity tanks.
