I would like to cut woven woods shades. Lowe's said I could just use a saw. Has anyone ever tried this?
Question:I have 30 windows to cover, trying to save money.
Answers:
Yes, I have done this. One thing must be done before cutting - tape the are to be cut! We used 2" blue painters tape and used an electric miter saw to cut through the middle of the tape. Not using tape with cause damage to the ends and can cause splintering down the individual blades.
Good luck!
WOVEN? meaning in the horizontal sense,,, End cut issues?
I've not ever done it, but it seems to me, after seeing how BLINDS are cut at HD/Lowes/ even Walmart, that your best effort might succeed using a chop saw with a finish blade or diamond cut blade.
BUT then I re-read, noting you said SHADES, and without any real details describing things such as Roman shades/ Fine bamboo, etc. I suspect your best effort would be in having the shades/blinds in the BUNCHED UP, tight to the mechanism, position.
With all due respect too, how might one accept a job doing 30 windows without some forethought, or equipment? Hopefully,,,and again with no offense; you aren't strictly in the "window treatment" business. Was there ever a consideration to purchase to the correct size? OR have them sized at the point of purchase?

I am not famliar with woven woods, and have not tried it. However, this should not be a problem at all. Tightly bundle the shade in the closed position. You might even tape them at the end you are cutting. A miter saw with a carbide blade would work very well to cut them. Be sure to hold them tight against the fence.
Hermionesoul is right.
I saw on HGtv where they said to tape FIRST.
Go to HTtv.com and see if you can find it on HGtv/diy.com
Allow the saw to get its maximum rpm before cutting. Cut very slow to avoid tear or ripping effect.
