How Can I Save Money When Building A Horse Barn?

Question:I need 4 stalls, 12' X 12' - a small area for tack, and a small area for feed. I will also need a small area for washing and grooming. Any ideas on how to do it cheaper will be appreciated. Thank you all!

I don't know about "cheap" but, my daughters, two of them, have steel barns, it's the easiest to build. Mine was 38 X 40 there's are 40 X 75 with twelve foot sides. !2 X 12 stalls are quite big, eight foot should be sufficient. Washing and grooming is done outside due to extra costs of plumbing, drains, standing water, etc, too many problems with this inside. In the winter, you won't do it anyway.

A small tack and feed room should be sufficient. Instead of stalls you could just use a small area for the horses to come into without extra stalls, my sister does this, she can then clean it with a front end loader to save work, she has seventeen horses and llamas.
There's various ways to do it without spending to much money.
Your not going to have the horses inside all the time or, at all really, they'll just make a mess. Only when the weather is bad and then, they'll like it outside anyway unless it's a freezing rain or the like. If they come in to much they loose their winter hair, they usually don't like to be inside, they start "cribbing" get nervous and start chewing all the time.

Just some ideas, check with other people, check with your local vet. Check with the local horse people in the area, they like to brag.

ask your local power company if they have any used electical poles that they are willing to give away or sell for cheap. Set the poles at the height you want and build around it. Saves on buying large beams for the poles.
If you have the trees on your property have a portable saw mill come in and saw the boards for you.
My husband bought a pole barn kit from Carter's Lumber. They come in a variety of sizes and styles. Have a barn raising party like we did. Just provide some food and drinks and have some buddies help you. Then work on the inside a bit at a time as you can afford to.
