How do you fix a carpate tear? My dog ate about a 2 feet by 4 feet piece?

Question:

Answers:
you will need some carpet to use as a patch. If you don't have any matching carpet you can try getting it from the closet or an area that will never be seen-like under piano or something. Otherwise you may want to use an even larger remnant and seam it into place to make a new pattern. You take the piece you are going to replace it with , lay it over the problem area and cut around the patch, cut out the old lay in the new. you can buy carpet seam tape that you iron on. slip the tape halfway under each side then put the patch in and iron. Or follow directions on tape.

I don't think that this would be considered a "tear".

If you can find matching carpet, it could be patched, but it'll look like crap.

Throw a rug or something over it until you're ready to replace the carpet, although, my guess is that you're ready now.
Call a professional. He will can take a piece of carpet from a closet to do the patch, and replace the closet with something else. While it sounds easy to pop the piece in, and use an iron and seaming tape - it's not as easy as it sounds, and if not done properly - will look like crap. The iron used on seam tape is a special seaming iron, that melts the tape, but not the carpet fiber, and usually runs about $300 - the one off of your ironing board will not work. A good installer will usually charge a minimum house call visit of $75 - $100.
