What do the numbers on sewing machine needles mean?
Question:What do the numbers on sewing machine needles mean? I just replaced my needle and my old one was 90/14 I believe and my new one is 80/12.
Answers:
They represent different thicknesses. Larger needles perform better than small ones on thicker fabrics, and thinner ones are best for thin or fine fabrics. A 14 needle is thicker than a 12 needle. Either is good for mid-weight fabrics, and makes a pretty good all-purpose needle.
The first number (90, and 80) is just a European measurement. The second numbers are US.
When you buy needles, also pay attention to whether they are standard tip or ball tip. Standard tip is best for wovens, ball tips are for knits.
Good luck!
It is the size of the needle. different sizes are for different types of fabric. I have included a link to a pdf that is a chart of what size needles are for what types of fabrics

that is the size and the width of the needle to be used. It's easy, you can just go to a shop and ask for a needle sized 14 or 12. coz some needles like for example if you need to sew a thicker fabric, there is a specified needle for that and sewing the simple cloth would also require a specific needle size so you can just ask them like you need this size.
The numbers is the size of the needle.
The number indicate the size of the needle and they should be replaced with one of the same size to prevent damage to the machine or the breaking of the needle. If you need to find a new needle of the same size and one is not available at the store, try contacting the machine manufacturer.
