I suggest an undercoat or wood primer ... just to give the gloss paint some protection against peeling or chipping. If the boards are already painted, just sugar soap them down and a rub over with a light sandpaper to provide a key for the gloss.
what colour
Not really
no,u r best to give the boards a rub down first, top tip paint the boards first then the walls as it is better to cut into the boards than to cut into the wall
There are primer and paint all in one from Behr.
if already painted then you have to sand it down abit, you can't paint gloss on top off gloss...you have to take the shine off 1st.
If it no paint at all,you usually have to undercoat it...this stops the gloss from sinking into the wood.. :-D
I usually use emulsion as an undercoat first. The paint sticks to it better
only if you buy the special paint thats states that it can ..they are normally called something like one coat ..but every time i tried it ..it allways took at least two coats to cover properly
you need to sand them first ideally you need to unercoat then gloss but you can get away with it but the paint will peel off eventually
yes just use a one coat gloss no need to undercoat
It is always best to rub down, undercoat rub down again, then gloss. You can use One coat gloss but I have always found that you need at least two coats of that and it is expensive.
If they are new unpainted skirting boards I would recommend that you paint them with water based emulation first. This will provide a good base coat for the gloss to stick to. If they have already been painted, then just paint gloss direct on to them.
Brett B is right, you can use a 'one coat' gloss. Not as white as gloss and if the skirting is not white enough before painting, it may not cover first time. But then do 2 coats.
Best is to undercoat then gloss.
are you repainting them over existing paint or from wood. if from wood maybe use some primer and if your repainting them then sand them first .
Rub the skirting boards down first , you can use a sander ,but it is always best to use a under coat before you put the gloss on ,it will be a better finish .
best rub down and undercoat then gloss
