How should I go about fixing up a bedroom suite that is almost 20 years old?

Question:The bedroom suite is a dark cherry color and it is pretty banged up with scratches and so forth due to it being moved a lot and being in my garage. I want to re-do it and bring it in now, but how do I re-finish it first? Do I sand it first then re-stain it or if I want to change the color can I just sand it and then paint it? What can you do and not do so that I won't ruin it forever...? Please help. Thanks

Answers:
there is a primer that does not need you to sand first- Kilz. If you want a crackle look, follow the directions on the kit you purchase. If you want a durable finish, use an oil base paint. If you want an old look, paint with red first, then white, and then sand areas and bang it up with a hammer.

well i kno that u can buy some ((im mad that i forgot whats its called)) but its like oily stuff ... Well i kno that the brand name is woodlite it brings the color back 2 life
